I chose “pride” as the theme for July. Yes, late June (and July first) is annual pride week in Toronto (celebrating the LGBT+ community) and attending the Pride Parade did inspire me to come up with this theme. The most amazing thing I noticed during that experience was that people were celebrating who they were and were proud of who they are. It was amazing to see people be true to themselves and because such be explicitly happy. They were all walking for different causes, had different backgrounds, genders and orientations, but one thing they had in common was that they were proud to walk and express who they are. Some many times we fear to be ourselves, to have a voice, because we are afraid of others’ opinions. We conceal ourselves, our personalities, our core being, in order to appease others, and because so we are unhappy (and afraid, not very proud at all). Pride is knowing who you are and being true to it, and not fearing others opinions (because you know what is true to you and no one can tell you otherwise). So during this month celebrate yourself – know who you are, find your strengths, your voice, your purpose. Celebrate and encourage others to be proud of who they are, with grace and non-judgement. Be proud of who you are, be true to yourself, and happiness will follow in truth.
