Featured botanical for February – Passion Flower

Passion Flower:

Passion flower is a loving and fitting herb for February.  Passion flower is fittingly named for it’s main feature – Compassion.  Main actions of passion flower, or Passiflora, is to act as a nervine, antispasmotic, and aphrodisiac. So in other words to calm, sooth and enhance love (ie. the very meaning and essence of compassion).  Passion flower is used as a fantastic botanical for anxiety, ADD, restless leg syndrome, insomnia (calms the mind), hypertension and arrhythmia (calms the heart), and menstrual pains.   In a tea (especially with Chamomile) it can be a great soother for hyper-excitability and times of stress.

Note: if taking medications please consult with a health care practitioner before taking passion flower to see if there are any interactions.
